A Building Designed to Promote Collaboration

The Health Science & Technology Building is a six-story 197,147 sq. ft. structure with a total of 125,973 sq. ft. being fit out. The exterior is composed of curtainwall that incorporates an integral sunscreen and terrazzo, while the steel frame structure includes a post tensioned pedestrian bridge over Asa Drive.

The building required a deep excavation for the basement level and foundations, approximately 30’ below grade. The scope included faculty offices, post-doctorate and graduate offices, research laboratories, core laboratory facilities, general purpose classrooms, and social spaces that integrate natural light and greenery. The laboratory walls that face the interiors of the building are floor-to-ceiling glass to promote collaboration and the exchange of ideas.

Two of the five floors remain as shell space to give Lehigh flexibility to fit out space as new faculty are recruited. The finished facility provides a highly visible home for the new College of Integrated Health.
